GEAS-Reform
The CEAS reform will come into force on 12 June 2026. The reform will bring about a great many changes across the EU to asylum law, residence law and the law for social benefits for asylum seekers.
Most of the changes are bad. People seeking protection will have to spend even more time living in camps and can be detained more quickly.
The new rules will only apply to people who have applied for asylum on or after 12 June 2026. If you applied for asylum before then, the old system will apply.
Most of the new regulations are very complicated, and it is not yet clear exactly how they will be implemented in practice. We are working on updating all the changes on our website by the end of 2026.
